“Android TV (ATV)” and “Google TV (GTV)” are closely related but not identical products. Google TV is essentially the latest user experience (UX) layer built on top of Android TV — it is not a separate operating system, but a customized version of Android TV designed to provide a more personalized and content‑centric interface.
Technical Difference:
Android TV refers to the underlying operating system — in this case, Android 11.
Google TV refers to the user interface layer and content aggregation system that sits on top of Android TV. It reorganizes the traditional Android TV interface to highlight personalized recommendations, streaming integration, and a unified home screen experience.
In other words:
All Google TV devices are running on Android TV OS, but not all Android TV devices have the Google TV interface.
So, when a product lists “Android TV” in the technical specifications and “Google TV” on the marketing or product title, both labels are accurate — they describe different levels of the same system.
Google’s requirement:
Google has required manufacturers to mark devices that use its new interface as “Google TV” in branding and promotion, even though the core operating system remains Android TV (Android 11).
Thus, seeing “ATV” in the system description and “GTV” in the marketing name is normal and expected.
