Question
Why doesn't my projector automatically switch to the HDMI channel when I plug in an HDMI device?
Answer
Scenario
Expected Behavior: When you plug in an HDMI device, the projector should automatically switch to the HDMI channel to display the HDMI content.
Platform Differences
Android 11 Projectors
-
Auto source switching is enabled by default
-
The projector automatically switches to HDMI when you plug in an HDMI device
Android 14 Projectors
-
Auto source switching is disabled by default
-
You need to manually enable this feature in settings
Solution: Enable Auto Source Switching
To enable automatic HDMI switching on Android 14 projectors:
-
Go to All Settings
-
Navigate to Channels & Inputs
-
Find Auto source switching
-
Toggle the switch to ON
After enabling this setting, your projector will automatically switch to the HDMI channel when you plug in an HDMI device.
Background Information
The behavior difference between Android 11 and Android 14 is due to the following:
-
Android 11: Uses customized HDMI behavior that we can control
-
Android 14: Uses Google's native HDMI behavior (cannot be customized)
Understanding Auto Source Switching
This feature affects two behaviors:
-
Power-on Auto Switch: When HDMI is already connected and you turn on the projector, it automatically switches to HDMI
-
Hot-plug Auto Switch: When you plug in an HDMI cable while the projector is on, it automatically switches to HDMI
Note: The Auto source switching toggle is disabled by default because when enabled, it affects the power-on auto switch behavior, which may not be preferred by all users.
